I love using reusable grocery bags. Another way we help the earth is we recycle and use reusable water bottles.

At our house, we recycle everything we can. Sometimes people forget that there are recyclable items in the bathroom like empty shampoo bottles, paper cups, empty kleenex boxes or empty toilet paper rolls.
I also save every bottle cap since they cannot go in the recycle box at the road. I wash the bottle caps and then give them to our grade one teacher. She makes letter games out of them by writing a letter on each cap and the students can make words.
At our school one class made art out of garbage (bottle caps, candy wrappers, juice boxes, straws) and displayed it outside their classroom. It looked pretty neat!.
We try to turn all the lights off in the house that are not being used rather than leave all the lights on in all the rooms. Have fun with your survey! Thanks for inviting me!

I am just like Mrs. B.! I love using my cloth grocery bags. I even use them when I shop at the mall with my daughters. We never litter at my house, everything goes in the garbage or the recycle boxes. Whenever Mr. Ostrom and I go for a walk on the beach or in the woods we pick up other people trash so that the birds and animals can stay safe. My daughters play lots of sports and they always use reusable water bottles. We save energy by turning out the lights when we leave a room, too! At school, all the SKs are great composters, just like all of you. I love your wiki, grade ones. Keep up the good work!

In my house, we are big believers of recycling! We recycle everything we possibly can in order to keep our Earth clean and healthy!

I use plastic boxes and cloth bags when I do my grocery shopping at No Frills and we recycle at our house. Just recently I switched from using plastic water bottles that I would recycle when I go to the gym and I bought a refillable bottle and I use water out of the tap. I am also bringing a refillable water bottle to school. My son who is in Grade 8 at Anderdon school said Mrs. Levesque who does many things at his school to help the earth would be very proud of me!

I try to use reusable grocery bags but I often forget to bring them with me when I go shopping!! My family recycles all their aluminum pop cans, plastic water bottles and cardboard boxes from snacks we eat. We do alot but I think we could do more. Answering your question has really got me thinking what more we could do to help the earth. Thanks grade one's!!!

We do a lot to save the earth. Using reusable grocery bags and water bottles are a must. Turning lights off when not in use and the water while brushing our teeth are some of the things we do everyday. We also use compact fluorescent light bulbs. We wash our clothes in cold water and just bought new energy efficient windows for the bedrooms so the airconditioning won't be on as much in the summer. Picking up trash on the streets and parks is also something we like to do to save our earth. We use reusable lunch containers and recycle everything we can. This year we are going to plant our own garden for flowers and veggies. Our new rain barrel is being delivered today so we can water our new garden. :)

We use reusable bottles for all of our drinks, we also use reusable grocery bags. We do not use anything on ourselves or our horses that contain chemicals harmful to the earth. We collect rain water to water our gardens in the summer.

At our house we replaced most of our light bulbs with new energy efficient ones. We also bring our own reusable bags to the grocery store. My kids have become so good at recycling that we barely fill one garbage can anymore and we had to get another blue and red bin to contain all of the packages we recycle. Did you know we can even recycle aluminum foil and pie plates? Thank you for asking this question and making us all more aware of what we can do to help our earth. I look forward to seeing the results of your data collection when I come back to your school. Good work, Grade One!

Hello Mrs. Betteridge's Grade One class!! I think this Wiki is a great idea to find out what other people do to help the earth. At my house, we try to pay attention to every item that can be recycled. We make sure to put all of our paper in the red bin and we break down all of our cardboard. My husband and I recently had a conversation about NOT buying bottled water ANY longer. What do you think about that? Do you have any advice for us? I also try to shut off the water when I am brushing my teeth - I don't let it run the whole time. We also shut off our computers at night to conserve energy. Here's a little family story for you.....when I was growing up, my Dad always got very upset when my siblings and I would leave the lights on in the house. He would scream and yell and we all responded with, "it wasn't me!" Then, we would run around the house shutting off all the lights. At a young age, we didn't realize the importance of trying to conserve energy. Not only was my Dad wanting to save money, but he knew it was better for our environment. But, now that I am all grown up, I understand how important it is to conserve the energy in our world - especially to save it for the wonderful young people like you who will need to use it. Let me tell you....the lights in my house are always shut off when we leave and if it is not necessary for them to be turned on. I'm glad that you are aware of how important our earth's energy is at such a young age. Well done Grade One!! Keep up the good work with helping to save our environment.

There is alot of things we do everyday to help the Earth that has become habit for us, like turning the water off while we brush our teeth, shutting off the lights when they are not in use, and hanging our clothes out to dry in the nice weather. We recycle anything that the recycling program will take. We also use reusable shopping bags and energy efficient light bulbs and have started replacing old appliances with new energy efficient appliances. On Earth day we clean out the garbage that has made it's way into the ditches by our house. We try to keep our Earth clean everyday.
Great job Mrs b. and the Grade ones!

Hi Grade One Friends and Mrs. B! I see you are still busy! At my new school we are trying to reduce waste by packing our lunches in reusable containers. Each day we have a volunteer who weighs each class' garbage to see which class brought in the least garbage to school. That's how we are doing our part!
